Cooking dinner has felt a lot like Groundhog Day in recent months, meaning you could probably do with a few new ideas to make cooking and baking exciting again – and that’s where TikTok comes in.
The social media site isn’t just for showing off your dance skills; it’s also a goldmine for quirky new food and drink trends.

This isn’t a bread to slather in butter, but rather a sweet bake. It’s incredibly easy to make – all you have to do is whip up egg whites with sugar and cornstarch and bake. Dying the batter different colours gives the bread extra impact when you pull it apart. And thanks to the whipped egg whites, the texture is as light as air.
You won’t have to learn any new techniques or buy any fancy equipment for this one. All you have to do is fry up tiny circles of pancake batter, pop them in a bowl, load up with your favourite toppings and eat with a spoon like you would your cornflakes.
It’s proved so popular on TikTok it’s inspired copycat versions featuring miniature cookies, doughnuts and cinnamon rolls, all eaten like cereal.
It feels like a lifetime ago, but whipped coffee was arguably the original TikTok food trend to explode in popularity. This Korean drink is named after a honeycomb-style Korean sweet, and is like a whipped, upside-down coffee.
All you have to do is whip together instant coffee, hot water and sugar – an electric whisk is definitely advised here, otherwise it will take a long time for the mixture to firm up. Pour milk into the bottom of a glass (a clear one, so everyone can see your creation) and add the mousse-like, frothy coffee mixture on top – it has a texture similar to whipped cream. Serve hot or cold, depending on your preference.
The Dalgona sparked a craze for all things whipped on TikTok – hot on its heels was whipped Nutella: Nutella whisked with heavy cream until light and fluffy, poured over milk.
TikTok food videos are all about making life easier for yourself, so it’s no surprise this recipe for crème brûlée using just three ingredients went viral.
To make your very own fancy French dessert, melt vanilla ice cream in the microwave, whisk in an egg yolk and bake in a ramekin in a water bath. Finally, to get that crunchy top, you don’t necessarily need a blowtorch. Instead, caramelise the sugar in a pan and drizzle over your cooled crème brûlée.
Vegan TikTok star Tabitha Brown is credited with devising this plant-based bacon alternative. Her recipe uses carrots peeled into thin strips via a vegetable peeler, to look like bacon. It’s then doused in Brown’s seasoning mixture: maple syrup, garlic powder, liquid smoke (a liquid seasoning giving a smoky flavour), smoked paprika and onion powder with pepper.
Once your carrot shavings have been coated in the mixture, place in an air fryer or oven to cook. When you pull out the carrots, you’ll have crunchy fake bacon ready to enjoy – perfect if you’re looking to reduce your meat intake.
